 I was a child welfare social worker for 34 years. Like any social worker with 34 years experience, I helped thousands of children, parents, and others. However, helping a few thousand people over 34 years is an inefficient way to help. Change a law, a policy, or a procedure, and potentially millions can be helped, at least in some way. My two books, In Place of the Parent: Inside Child Protective Services and Build A Better Bridge: Social Policy for the 21st Century are about "the system." How "the system" operates and where, in my humble opinion it could do better. Besides social policy, I've always an interest in history. I'm currently working on a book titled, "Beyond Amelia: Lesser-known women of yesteryear." Did you know the first person history records as an author was a woman? She was a priestess in ancient Sumeria. She was appointed high priestess by her father, the king. I am the father of two, now adult children. I like to think that like my own father was to me, that I have been, and remain, a good father to my children. The importance of "good dads" is a theme in my books.
