Lance Hillsinger, Author

The social welfare programs of the War on Poverty, which began in the 60s, have dramatically reduced the poverty rate. However, in absolute numbers, there are millions more living in poverty than in the 1960s.   Moreover, social welfare programs do not create wealth, "good capitalism" creates wealth.

While capitalism creates wealth, since the 1960s, the gap between top earners and average workers has widened considerably. Further, Automation and foreign competition have made the job market much more competitive. Similarly, the cost of housing has greatly outpaced inflation. The chances of "a hardworking American" having a decent-paying job and affordable home have greatly decreased.

Build A Better Bridge offers several low-cost/no-cost ideas to improve social welfare programs, to have capitalism serve the common good, and increase the availability of affordable housing.

Through numerous case studies In Place of the Parent:  Inside Child Protective Services describes the child welfare/juvenile court system and how "the system" changed during my 34 year career. The narrative is informative, heart-wrenching in places, heart-warming in others.  It even has some light-hearted parts..

In Place of the Parent is available in print and as a E-book from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other booksellers.  Either link will take you to the correct page.

beyond Amelia:  Lesser-known women of Yesteryear image
Beyond Amelia: Lesser-known Women of Yesteryear is what I can an "airport book," meaning a book to read while waiting for your flight, or while in the air, or at any time you want some light, but informative reading.

Beyond Amelia has five main sections: Adventures, Power Behind the Throne, Entrepreneurs, Scientists and Scholars, and Spies. Just as Amelia Earhart had her husband, George Putnam, some women had supportive men (usually their husband or father). However, as the book details, especially with women who are entrepreneurs, a support man is hard to find.
